First Dip

Caroline took her first dip in the lake (though only up to her knees because it was ice cold). She was a really good girl, despite only being able to sleep in two hour blocks while sitting in a chair, having a really stuffed up nose and generally feeling crummy. I think everyone fawning over her new swimsuit helped her feel a little better.

Meet Fred

Our friend Fred.

We didn't know him for very long, but he tasted excellent in a vodka/cheese cream sauce with pasta.

Some Sunshine

It's really corny, but seeing her smile is like sunshine on a rainy day.

Twins To Get New Outdoor Stadium

I personally don't know how I feel about spending taxpayer money to subsidize millionaires, however, the Twins will stay in Minnesota through 2040; they cannot move or contract based on the article above.

And speaking of the Twins, take a look at these recent bat girl articles here and here. Funny, as always.

Tummy Time

With Caroline getting older and stronger, Tummy Time isn't so awful anymore. She's on the brink of rolling from her belly to her back and yesterday she even moved herself forward a few inches when on her stomach to try to get a toy.
GULP!!!

Cat Osterman: What a Pitcher

I'm sure my intrepid wife will like to comment more on this, but I happened to just find it while wandering through the internet right before leaving work.

A New Discovery

Tonight while getting ready for bathies (which was badly needed after the rice cereal experience), Caroline found her feet. While sucking your own toes is pretty gross - she makes it (at least sort of) cute...

First Food

Tonight, due to the fact that Caroline is eating so much that I can barely keep up with her, we gave her the first tastes of rice cereal. The consistency was more like rice soup, but she didn't do half bad. Caroline was more interested in the biting the spoon than actually eating what was on it and more of the food ended up on the bib than in her mouth, but these things are to be expected...

I really think what she was most interested in was Daddy's sandwich and salad. We tried to explain to her that she wasn't quite ready, but she would have none of that! Four months old and already getting an attitude...

This Weekend...

This was a pretty big weekend for Caroline and our family. She was baptised today at our church and a lot of our family were able to be there to celebrate. It was so nice to have people together. Caroline was a real trooper. She didn't cry at all during the baptism (she had the hiccups instead) and seemed not to mind everyone playing "pass the baby" with her. But she was so overtired that bedtime was a tremendous challenge...
We are really greatful for a wonderful (though exhausting) weekend.

Caroline and her Great Grandmother. Caroline was able to wear the same gown that her cousins wore and my friend Heather sent Caroline's bonnet. Apparently it's a southern tradition to have a baptism bonnet made from a handkerchief. This way, on her wedding day, she will have something old.
What a wonderful idea.

Aunt Margie, does God really live here?

What a big girl...

You're not Cookie, but it'll do in a pinch
I'll post more later (yawn)...

Excitement in Buffalo

These guys are for REAL! Okay - I'm a fairweather hockey fan. Well - maybe more of a winter-weather hockey fan, actually...once baseball starts it usually gets brushed to the side. But being a native Western New Yorker - I have to be more than a bit excited about this.
Here comes New Jersey or Carolina. Matt had tickets to game six, too. Oh, well...

All Zulu Hope Is Lost - Godzilla To Miss First Game, Like Ever

Listening to the Yankees radio broadcast (we simply like Sterling a lot, it's that simple), Hideki Matsui broke his wrist. He'll be out for several weeks since they're going to do surgery tomorrow on it. Tomorrow's game will literally be the first one that he's missed in the majors... to quote wikipedia:

Matsui has not missed a game in his first three seasons with the Yankees, putting together a streak of 518 games played. Before that, he played in 1,573 consecutive games with [the] Yomiuri [Giants].

We're toast.

Welcome To The Show, Mr. Hunter, May We Take Your Coat

Torii Hunter has had at least one hit in each game since May 3rd, raising his batting average from below the Mendoza line (0.194) to near his career average as of last night's game against the Rangers (0.268). No dingers, but 3 RBI to boot! And, Batgirl gave him a BOD nod for last night's win.

Anything positive about this abysmal roto season for us is worth writing about...like Kotsay's dinger last night (#2) or John Garland's ERA being reduced by over 3 runs over his past 4 starts, even tho he's only got two wins overall and none during his ERA 'diet'...or that Scott Baker has not walked anyone in the past three starts, even though he's allowed 9 ER in 11 innings (hint: stop throwing gopherballs and cheap hits and your ERA will stop ballooning and maybe your turn in the rotation wont be skipped). Sigh.

More Caroline and Cookie

You know - they're spending so much time together that I think they're starting to look alike.

Tornadoes 1st Game In...

Another Win for the Bay State Wheelers

Every year Fairlawn Hospital hosts an event to raise money for the Bay State Wheelers by volunteering to allow them to kick our butts in a game of wheelchair basketball. We kept up tradition and managed to lose again this year - even with the Wheelers up 33-2 at the half and flipping the score in favor of Fairlawn.
Final score: 40 - 36 Wheelers.
But we did manage to raise of $4500 and 4 very nice chairs were donated for the Wheelers to use. They are a great organization that provides free programs for people with disabilities in Central Mass.
Everyone had a great time and my arms and pecs are very sore today.

PS - maybe I can find the pic from last year and post it as well. For some reason I was the Fairlawn poster girl for the Telegram and Gazette then, too.
