Nate's 1st Christmas Tree

Today, we decided to go and cut down our own tree for Christmas...typically, we have gotten christmas trees as a present in the recent past, but this year we decided to explore our own environs and see what was out there...Karen asked around Caroline's dance studio and was told of one in Princeton off Route 31. We let google do the walking (so to speak) and found the one-and-only tree farm in Princeton called Marsh's Tree Farm. Of course, in Caroline-talk, the place was called "Martians Tree Farm". Caroline asked to see the Martians of course :)

"Is this the one you want?"

Kid-isms

Sammy -

First, to set up the funny, Sammy does this thing that he calls "strongman" where he grunts and flexes his arms like Lou Ferrigno and his face gets red from straining...

Sammy: "Strongman!" [face turns red, flexes arms]
Dada: "Strongman!" [Dada's voice strains, flexes arms Hulk Hogan style, face turns red]
Sammy: [points to Dada, a questioning look on his face] "Poopin?"

~~~
Caroline: [during dinner one night this week] "Juice makes my elbows strong!" [flexes her arms, mom and dad keel over laughing]
Dada's Turn
Today it's my turn to put up some pics of the snow, after trading working yesterday for a snowday today...
Sammy helping to shovel...alright I had to prop him up:
Wakefield
No, not Timmy. Unfortunately. That would have been great.
Wakefield as in Massachusetts.
I decided not to push my luck by taking a three year old to the Trumbull Regional. Even though I really, really wanted to go. Maybe next year.
So instead of going to the regional, Jim and I decided to trek to our old stomping grounds. I lived in Wakefield for a couple years and we lived there for a little while after we got married. It is such a nice town. The whole downtown is situated around a lake. From the front door of our apartment it was exactly four miles round trip around the lake and back to our house. It was a perfect stroll. Maybe that's why I was in such good shape then. I would walk the lake at least once on most days. We were reminiscing about how we used to go watch softball or little league games for our Wednesday night date nights. We would bring a picnic dinner with us (complete with a bottle of wine). Sometimes it was a little tough walking home. =-) When we would go to the laundrymat we would get Thai take out and make a party of it.
We miss Sushi Island. We wouldn't go that often - but it was fun. There was this cute Japanese singer that could just belt it out. The sushi was good, too.
And Cravings. Mmmmmmm. Now that I think about it, maybe I had to walk around the lake as much as I did to make up for going there so much.
One thing we had forgotten was how strong people's accents are on the North Shore. I actually had a hard time understanding some people in the ice cream shop. Guess that must mean we're Worcester-ites now. The Central Mass accent is more harsh, but there is better articulation. Most of the patrons spoke like Tom Menino - it just sounded like a long string of mumbling with no Rs!
Here is Sam taking a breather before our picnic lunch at the park:
And here's Caroline settling down to eat. Her quote - "I have to put my hands in my pockets because the wind is hurting my hand's feelings":
Subs are not the easiest things for a three year old to eat!
She likes to wear her hat soooo low:
Walking through the muddy-mud:
Somebody loves "pink" ice cream with rainbow sprinkles!
And Somebody else loved sharing Dada's mocha-java ice cream:
Caroline "driving" the school bus with Dada and Sam riding. They were going to school to learn about bumble bees, according to CJ!
Sam was so cold we thought he was going to grow snot icicles on his face!
Caroline just loved the slide:
And the "spider web"
Friday Fix
In the effort to get at least a million and a half things done before the kids wake up, here are some pictures from dinner last night.
In other news:
The Red Sox are KILLING me.
But I love it.
Sam, shall we say, is less than NEAT when he eats.
Caroline said that she "had" to be a princess to go to Ria's yesterday. The good news is that we get to mingle with royalty on a daily basis now. The bad news is that she thinks Sam is her "pumpkin" (I hope she doesn't think he's going to turn into a coach and sprint her out of here)...
And Sam just before a well earned bath:
Questing to the Rock
We had our semi-annual quest to Plymouth Rock today.
Actually, that's not accurate - we were so underwhelmed by the rock last time that we skipped it this time and just hung out around Plymouth.
We had a very nice day - the weather couldn't have been better.
The tide was out and the shore was huge. We ended up in the ocean. Surprise! Good thing I brought a change of clothes for everyone.
We had a lovely late lunch at the Cabby Shack. The clam chowder was so thick it was like eating clam custard. It sounds gross, but it was wonderful - I assure you - I could feel my arteries clog with every bite.
Giving Thanks...
As I was "giving hug" to Caroline an hour after we put her to bed (a tactic of hers to avoid sleeping), she started talking - unprompted - about what she was thankful for this weekend:
"I thank for the softball game at night [she was talking about watching the BoSox game Friday nite on TV, see Karen's post below]. I thank Papa for showing me the circus ostrich with the bea-u-ti-ful neck [one of the animals on the carousel]. I thank Nina for the white ice cream and ALL the CHOCOLATE sprinkles... I thank Dada for riding the Piggie [yet another carousel animal]."
After that, I put her back in bed...then she told me:
"The ponies eat APPLES...the giraffes eat oranges," as she nodded her head in the affirmative, "and ostriches eat PANCAKES," again nodding her head 'yes'.
And, if you can believe it, while looking for the name of the park we went to, I found this on Youtube - you really can find just about anything in the internet these days! This is the carousel with the ponies, piggies, ostriches and the rest of the circus animals:
CJ & Sammy J GiggleFest
Caroline has a way of making Sammy laugh with these huge belly laughs, better than anyone else can. I SAID in the last post that I would not add another video, but this one is too rich to pass up:
A Tradition Continues.
This will probably be a tradition that makes the kids roll their eyes and say how absolutely lame their mother is, but I don't care.
Anybody remember St Patrick's Day of 2006 and 2007? Well, here are the installations for 2008...
It did occur to me to try to get their picture together, but Caroline kept shaking her head ( "I make the flowers bounce, Mommy") which would result in shamrocks flying across the room as they sailed off the headband ("I broke the flowers, Mommy. You fix? Please?"). I had to do my best to keep Sam out of the crossfire.
Sam, by the way, was super smiley tonight (imagine that). It's a nice change from what we've become used to. I hope it's a trend.
Caroline (literally) got into her toybox the other day. Maybe she has been reading the blog too much...
I'll put pictures up from this weekend as soon as I get them. Yes, that is a hint.
