More on Cooperstown

Finally there will be a women in Cooperstown. But hopefully, before it's too late, the committee will see that John Jordan "Buck" O'Neil belongs there as well. Sure he was helped by being one of the main storytelling sources for Ken Burns in his Baseball series, but Buck was a force to be reckoned with as a ballplayer, manager, scout and now is chairman of the Negro League Baseball Museum. He has been involved in the game in some capacity (except for a 2 year stint in the Navy during World War II since 1937. Yup, you read that right - 1937.

O'Neil won two batting titles, was named to three Negro League All Star teams, managed four Negro League All Star teams, led the Kansas City Monarchs to four titles and then was a scout for the Cubs for over 30 years.

It seems that the Baseball Writers have something against people who are still actually alive. Too bad the comments section of their site is yet to be up and running. I can't think of someone I would rather see in Cooperstown than Buck O'Neil.
